PEOPLE

Sekinchan is west of Selangor. It lies 30km north of Kuala Selangor in Sabak Bernam. The British colonial authorities separated the settlement into site A, B, and C. Sekinchan's population rose from 17000 in 2004 to 30,000 in 2011. Hokkien and Cantonese-speaking Chinese peasants dominate. Most locals cultivate and fish. A few villagers own tiny businesses. Fresh, affordable fish is Sekinchan's specialty.


CULTURE

Sekinchan is Chinese mean 'village suitable for plantation", the land and weather is suitable for farming of rice, fruits and oil palm trees. The main economy activities in Sekinchan are agriculture and fishery, while some are running small business and manufacturing. It is a fast developing tourist attraction, widely recognized as a famous paddy field instead of a fishing village.
